Understand
For a numerical claim, write the inputs, formula, working and units. Repeating the same prompt is weaker than checking by a different reliable method. A calculator can help, but the expression entered must match the problem. Keep the original error visible in your notebook and explain your correction.
Original classroom scenario / sample claim
A deliberately incorrect answer says: “A rectangle 8 cm long and 4 cm wide has area 24 square centimetres.”
Try it and check it
- Write the formula for area and substitute the given lengths.
- Calculate the area independently.
- Find the different quantity that equals 24 for this rectangle.
- Correct both the number and the units in the original answer.
Without a device: Print this lesson, use paper cards or the supplied fictional text, and discuss the checks in pairs. A student can later enter their own notebook record for teacher review when a device is available.
Notebook: write your corrected or unresolved conclusion, the evidence you actually checked, and a reflection. Do not include passwords, identity documents or private information. Original BrainCheck companion content, BCAI-v1.
